Some Bronx straphangers have another option for getting through the turnstile at several subway stations.
The six-month trial program for Smart Cards begins Tuesday and allows participating commuters to tap cards or tags to get through a turnstile. The Smart Card system recognizes all Citibank-issued MasterCards, debit cards and PayPass keychain tags.
Many say this new system will make MetroCards a thing of the past. Some residents say the Smart Card will save them time, but others are reluctant to give out their credit card information.
The trial readers were installed on the Lexington Avenue line from 138th Street and Grand Concourse in the Bronx to the Borough Hall stop in Brooklyn.
