Bronx mother attends custody dispute meeting in Oklahoma
The Bronx woman involved in a custody battle over her friend?s children attended a meeting in Oklahoma with her lawyers and the child welfare agency.
Aida Colon says her friend in Oklahoma was forced to give up her children and wanted Colon to adopt them. According to Colon, the Oklahoma caseworker is to blame after she was forced to send the children back to their Oklahoma foster parents. However, after the meeting Colon?s lawyer says it?s possible the dispute could be over a misunderstanding, rather than misinformation.
Colon says while the caseworker may not be to blame, the Oklahoma child welfare agency did fail to inform her of the two hearings she was required to attend with the children. She claims as a result of her not attending the hearings, the children were taken away. Colon also says the reason the dispute is ongoing is because the Oklahoma foster parents have decided they would like to adopt the children. However, the children?s birth mother has repeatedly said she wants her children to live in the Bronx with Colon.
