Woodlawn residents continue fight to reopen firehouse
The Ladder 39 Firehouse closed down back in June, but that has not stopped residents from trying to get the house reopened. Woodlawn residents say they have offered up a number of plans to the city for restoring the firehouse, all to no avail. The city vetoed a suggestion of using the old Saturn car dealership as the site of a temporary firehouse. Also turned down was an offer of $10 million to build a brand-new firehouse. The Fire Department of New York says it won?t review the issue again until next summer. Officials say, after one year they will be able to analyze department response times to determine if there has been a significant change.
