BX Senator Gonzalez surrenders to authorities for allegedly misusing gov't funds

NYS Senator Efrain Gonzalez (D-Bronx) surrendered to federal authorities Friday to face charges of misappropriating government funds.

The indictment charges the 58-year-old with pocketing money from grants and contracts that was supposed to go to community groups. Gonzalez allegedly used the money to purchase Yankee tickets, pay for college tuition and clothing. The FBI reportedly worked with city officials to search hundreds of records in a two-year probe.

Gonzalez was released on $25,000 bond and is expected back in court in October.
