New city funding to bring more affordable housing to the Bronx

Apartment improvements and more affordable housing are headed to the Bronx thanks to new city funds.

The city has set aside $30 million for new affordable housing units and renovations. Bronx residents living near an old mansion on Fox Street are happy to hear about plans to fix it up. City officials say $19 million will be used to restore the old house and create affordable units within the building.

Meanwhile, $11 million of the funding will be used to renovate two empty NYCHA buildings in the West Bronx on Macombs Road and a building on Montgomery Avenue. City officials hope to have the last financing details worked out by next month. Construction is set to begin at the start of 2007.
