Pedestrians' pleas heard, DOT to install light at dangerous BX intersection
The pleas of Bronx residents were heard as news came that the Department of Transportation (DOT) will install a traffic light at a dangerous intersection.
Many residents say they take their lives into their hands when trying to cross the three-way intersection at Westchester Avenue, Bruckner Boulevard and Amendola Place during rush hour. Many commuters say they have a long wait to cross to connect to the neighboring 6 train or bus. The DOT says about 350 pedestrians cross the intersection every day during rush hour.
After conducting tests, the DOT says they will install a traffic light at the intersection in January. Some residents think the light will add to the congestion. However, officials say the light will make crossing easier and safer.
