Long wait times and inconsistent primary care are what Bronx residents have to look forward to if Westchester Square Medical Center closes, according to the city.

A report by Comptroller William Thompson finds a nearby facility will see a 50-percent increase in patients. Thompson says the state is putting residents? health at risk with ?irresponsible? closures. The report calls for the state to study EMS response times, monitor emergency room capacities and invest money in preventative care.

Governor George Pataki (R-NY) recently signed off on the measure to close several city facilities to cut costs. The Legislature failed to oppose the measure, which goes into effect in January.
