Cops in the Bronx, city hone safety skills with training
In the midst of controversy surrounding recent police conduct, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly announced Thursday that the NYPD will be assessed on its firearms training and discharge procedures. The Rand Corporation will work with NYPD officers using computer simulation programs. The activities are created to test the officers? ability to make fast and difficult decisions. Kelly says officers are forced to make split-second, life-threatening decisions every day and more training will only help them take the correct course of action. The call for citywide training comes in response to recent police shootings in New York City. The assessment will begin on Wednesday and will last about six months.
