Anniversary marks eight years since controversial shooting of Bronx man
Friends and family members commemorated a life brutally lost eight-years ago by the hands of NYPD officers. Amadou Diallo was shot 41 times by four police officers on February 4, 1999. Diallo was standing outside of 1147 Wheeler Ave. when four cops drove by and mistakenly recognized Diallo as a wanted man. When Diallo reached into his pocket, one officer yelled ?gun? and all four officers responded by opening fire. The investigation found Diallo was unarmed. The police officers were found not guilty of criminal misconduct.The shooting sparked controversy and protests. Diallo?s father is fighting to end the use of excessive force and brutality by police.
