President Bush's budget plan puts funding for city, BX hospitals at risk
President Bush's budget plan may have some bad news for residents in the Bronx and the rest of the city. The president is looking to cut $100 billion from Medicare and Medicaid funding. The cuts would translate to a loss of $350 million for hospitals throughout the city. President Bush is focused on trimming the fat in teaching programs funded by Medicare and Medicaid, not actual services to patients in city hospitals. The proposed cuts come less than a week after Governor Spitzer's (D-NY) budget plan where he said he would not back away from spending cuts in health care. Mayor Bloomberg (R-NYC) says he is concerned about the cuts since the city's teaching hospitals make great contributions to health care.
