Rash of burglaries prompts safety training for Bronx bodega workers
Police hosted a safety training session for bodega workers after a rash of burglaries in the Bronx. The free safety session took place Monday at Bronx Community College. The need for safety training arose after a string of armed robberies. Among other suggestions, police say keeping the outside of the store clean and well lit may keep criminals away. They also advised storeowners to install indoor and outdoor surveillance cameras. The Bodega Association of the United States estimates there are about 1,500 bodegas in the Bronx. NYPD officials say there will be more training sessions and encourage all workers to attend.
