Fire destroyed life's worth of hard work, Bronx business owners say
Business owners on East Kingsbridge Road are struggling to come to grips with the devastating loss caused by a four-alarm fire. The fire sparked Sunday at Crown Fried Chicken and quickly spread to three other stores that share the building. Vicky?s Café and GM Kingsbridge Grocery Store lost everything. Owner of Vicky's Café, Vicky Limberis, says she worked more than 20 years as a waitress to save enough money to open her own place. She says luckily, insurance will cover the damage and rebuild the café. Although no one was hurt, one business owner says watching her store ruined by the fire was the equivalent of watching her second home destroyed. Two adjoining stores were also damaged but not destroyed. No injuries were reported.
