Blood donation urged as supply reaches critically low levels in Bronx, city

The winter storm has affected the blood supply in the Bronx and the city as the New York Blood Center says supplies have reached critically low levels.
Due to Wednesday?s storm, the center canceled more than a dozen blood drives. The blood center says because of that, it lost an estimated 1,000 pints of blood and more than 150 platelet products. Eligible residents are urged to donate as soon as possible as officials say the blood supply is at an unprecedented emergency level.
The New York Blood Center say if the situation does not improve, non-emergency surgeries will be canceled and blood will be rationed to area hospitals.
