Win brings Raiders closer to CHSAA championship repeat

The Rice basketball team pulled off a big win Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the NY Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) division championship. The Raiders were coming off a 16-game winning streak going into the CHSAA quarterfinals against Xavierian. Rice was confident after beating the Clippers by a 10-point margin in their last game. Rice took off with a lead early on in the game, but Xavierian battled back to take a seven-point lead in the second half. However, Rice knew they had a title to defend and brought back their ?A? game for a 61-55 win. The Raiders take on the Royals Wednesday in the semifinals. The Raiders are also the favorite in the NY State AA Boys Basketball Poll.
