City, BX health care workers protest Spitzer's planned cuts
The battle over Governor Eliot Spitzer's (D-NY) plan to cut health care spending moved from the airwaves to the streets of New York City.Members of 1199SEIU, the union representing the city's nurses and other health care workers, went on a 14-block march Thursday. The group also held a rally outside Spitzer's office in midtown Manhattan. They say there has to be a better way to save money than by shortchanging Medicaid and closing local hospitals and nursing homes. The governor has said he will not be swayed by their campaign. His $120.6 billion budget proposal is expected to cut about $1 billion from the health care budget.
