Councilman John Liu proposed a measure Monday that would expand yellow taxicab service to the outer boroughs. Liu believes Bronx riders rely too heavily on private, or livery cabs.
"The city has turned a blind eye to these New Yorkers living outside the Manhattan central business district," Liu said at City Hall.
Liu says new cab stands in the Bronx could be funded by recent sales of taxi medallions. Taxi medallions are licenses required to drive a cab.
New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission Chairman Matthew Daus said the multi-million dollar plan is unrealistic.
"In our budget, we don't have the money to do it," Daus said.
