The former president of the board of Co-op City pleaded not guilty to bribery and conspiracy charges Friday.

The U.S. District Attorney?s office says Iris Herskowitz Baez was involved in a bribery scheme using state funds. Co-op City provides affordable housing for Bronx residents. The New York City Housing Authority supervises the program which is funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Baez is accused of accepting $100,000 in exchange for a $3.5 million painting contract. Since Co-op City is part of the Mitchell Lama Program, any jobs costing more than $50,000 must be put up for bid for businesses. The former painting contractor for Co-op City has also been charged.
