A medical examiner ruled Tuesday that a 5-year-old girl found dead in a Bronx apartment accidentally hung herself while playing with a jump rope.

Authorities say Monet Flugham, often called Monique, was found unconscious and hanging by her neck from a rope attached to a closet door Sunday. The victim's grandmother called 911 from the family's Bivona Street home. The girl was pronounced dead on arrival at a Bronx hospital.

Initial police reports suggested the child may have been abused, but they have since been dismissed.
