Rain forces sewage to spew from pipes in Pelham Bay
Some Pelham Bay residents were awakened by the sound of gurgling sewage spewing from pipes after a heavy downfall Wednesday.
Tenants at 1874 Pelham Parkway S. complain the sewage backed up, causing the mess to pour out from toilets, sinks and bathtubs. Residents say it's not the first time this has happened. They say they've been complaining to both the co-op board president and the city for years to fix the problem.
The president of the co-op board counters the city needs to fix the pipes, which are too small to handle the flow during torrential downpours.Related information:
