Mental health facility set to move into BX neighborhood

Homeowners are up in arms over plans to build a house for mentally ill people in the middle of their residential Bronx neighborhood.
The Post Graduate Center for Mental Health group wants to build a 56-unit complex on Lyvere Street, but occupied houses currently sit on the land.
Residents also argue their neighborhood is the wrong place for such a facility, citing concerns about the safety of area children.
State Sen. Jeff Klein agrees. "I don't think we're doing the community justice or the individuals by having so many of these types of facilities clustered in one specific community," Klein said.
Community Board 10 held a public meeting on the matter Thursday. The board has 75 days to submit recommendations about the building to state mental health officials.
