City launches program to keep BX seniors activePosted: Updated:
The city is launching a new program designed to keep Bronx seniors active and address public service needs at the same time.
The ReServe program was created amid an influx of highly educated retirees. Participants are matched to work for specific projects in city agencies or non-profit groups.
Helen Wilson retired after spending 38 years in the United Postal Service. She has joined the program and works with Bronx kids in an after-school program. Wilson says the work is engaging and keeps her active.
Program organizers say participants can utilize the skills they cultivated during their careers without the stress of a full-time job.
Those involved work between 10 and 15 hours a week for a small stipend.
