A Bronx sports foundation has stepped in to help fund the recovery of a paralyzed Brooklyn high school hoops star.
Samuel J. Tilden High School?s Alanzo George was left paralyzed from the neck down as a result of a car accident in March. George is in intensive rehabilitation at Goldwater Hospital on Roosevelt Island.
The Diane Brennan Scholarship Fund, named for the Daily News high school sports editor who died of cancer in 1995, is donating its $10,000 annual scholarship money towards George?s ongoing recovery. The fund usually hands out two $5,000 scholarships to local high school student-athletes each year.
Brennan?s husband was moved to help George when he found out he did not have insurance.
A recovery trust in George?s name has also been set up and has raised more than $60,000.
