$3.3M Hunts Point Riverside Park opens for fun
Officials cut the ribbon on a $3.3 million park in Hunts Point Wednesday, giving the South Bronx access to more green space.
The Hunts Point Riverside Park, once home to an illegal dumping ground, now boasts a floating dock, a spray shower for hot days and a stone amphitheater. Construction started in 2004.
The group Sustainable South Bronx worked with the city to plan the park, which was funded with city and state money.
Organizers say the next step is to start the first phase of the South Bronx Greenway Project, which aims to create more waterfront recreation space. Construction for that project is expected to start in 2008 and finish in 2012
