Labor Day marks unofficial end of summer in BX
Labor Day marked the unofficial end of summer, and some Bronx residents soaked up the sun on Orchard Beach Monday.
The holiday was started more than 100 years ago to celebrate the working man. Some beach concession workers marked the day by serving up food to hungry patrons. One woman said she doesn't mind working on the holiday.
City beaches and pools will close Tuesday, and lifeguards will no longer be on duty. Children also head back to school Tuesday.
Summer officially ends September 22.
