Fordham wins opener, downs URI 27-23

(09/03/07) THE BRONX ? The Fordham Rams started their season on a high note by defeating the University of Rhode Island 27-23 on Saturday.

At one point, Fordham held a 23-10 lead. However, they allowed URI to come back and eventually take a 23-20 lead with 3:26 remaining.

Despite the blown lead, Fordham marched back thanks to a 75-yard scoring drive that ended with John Skelton hitting Jason Caldwell in the end zone with just 15 seconds left. The score helped Fordham grab the victory.

Fordham will play its home opener against the University at Albany Saturday, September 8 on Jack Coffey Field at 6:00 p.m.
