Bronx Hispanic Festival opens with outdoor art show
The Bronx Hispanic Festival kicked off with a celebration of Latino culture Thursday by displaying the work of Hispanic artists.
Organizers set up artwork, which was painted on cardboard, at E. 149th Street and Third Avenue. More than 40 artists will display their work over the course of the festival.
Music, dance and theater will also play a vital role in the festival. Officials are also preparing for a large soccer match, saying the sport is popular among Hispanics.
Organizers said the goal of this year's activities is to explore the blending of Latino and American cultures. Participants are coming from as far away as Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Bronx Hispanic Festival will run through October 18.
