Police say they were forced to open fire on an armed suspect Saturday after he refused to drop his weapon.
According to police, a 19-year-old man was spotted in a park with a gun around 3:30 a.m. near Alexander Avenue. Police say the suspect ran and three officers gave chase. The suspect pulled out a gun and police shot him in the leg, officials say. Police recovered a 380-caliber gun at the scene.
An officer was taken to the hospital with a hand injury. The suspect is in stable condition at the hospital.
The shooting came nearly 24 hours after police shot a 45-year-old man in the Bronx. Police said he threatened officers with a kitchen knife during a traffic stop of a stolen car. That man was also shot in the leg and was hospitalized in stable condition.
