BX set to see $1 million in environmental grants

The Bronx is set to receive $1 million in environmental grants.The state is distributing more than $25 million to help revitalize waterfronts and other open spaces. New York City is expected to see about $3.9 million from the state.One location in the Bronx that will get assistance is the Crotona Park Nature Center. The center provides educational programs to schools, after-school programs and serves as an information center for the park.The Bronx River Greenway will also see a share of the funding. The greenway is still in the planning stages, but is a linear system of parks along the Bronx River that will provide access to open space and recreation.The Environmental Protection Fund started in 1993 and is funded through the real estate transfer tax.
