Officer dragged in Bronx traffic stop, suspect shot
A police officer is recovering after authorities say he was dragged in a Bronx traffic stop Tuesday.
Officials say two plainclothes officers stopped a vehicle on Kingsbridge Road around 11:30 a.m. The driver defied orders and tried to speed off, causing one officer to be briefly dragged, according to authorities.
Witnesses say the officer ended up shattering a car window when the suspect wouldn?t open the door, possibly leading to his injury. According to witnesses, another officer opened fire and hit the suspect in the leg when that individual tried to speed off. The suspect sustained injuries to both thighs.
The officer was taken to Jacobi Medical Center and the suspect was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital, both in stable condition.
Investigators are trying to piece together the motive behind the incident.
