Monsignor Scanlan's hopes for an upset were dashed when the boys basketball team recently lost to Iona Prep at home.
In the final quarter, Scanlan's Darrison Abreu passed the ball to a teammate who scored a layup, putting Scanlan up 43-42. A little later, Iona's Andre Pope also made a layup to put his team up 49-47.
Despite a valiant effort from Scanlan's David Torres, who scored 19 points in the game, the team eventually fell to Iona 58-49.
Iona prep is ranked 16th in New York City and tops the CHSAA A Division.
