Merchants work to preserve Westchester Square
Some store owners in Westchester Square are teaming up to give the shopping strip a facelift and to preserve the area?s history.
Local florist John Bonizio says a lot has changed in the neighborhood since he started his business 35 years ago. In order to preserve the area, Bonizio is putting together a Business Improvement District, or BID.
Bonizio says a BID would unite merchants, property owners and city officials. He says a BID would use a portion of tax dollars to maintain the area.
Part of the plans to revitalize the area include making a 5,000-square foot shopping, park and ride facility.
The merchants will hold their next meeting about the BID and the revitalization of Westchester Square on Feb. 20.
