Soldiers headed for Iraq bid farewell
A farewell ceremony at Fort Hamilton provided an emotional day for many as the New York National Guard prepares to send its members overseas.
The soldiers are gearing up for deployment in Iraq. Family members, friends and loved ones descended on the fort to say their goodbyes.
The men and women are part of the 133 Quartermaster Company. Once in Iraq, they will provide supplies and services for other soldiers.
They leave for Texas on Thursday for two months of additional training before the Iraq mission. Family members are hoping to welcome the guard members back by next March.
