Police arrest 2 in slaying of Mott Haven woman
Police arrested two men Wednesday in connection with the death of woman found dead last week.
The woman, Sylvia Hughes, was discovered Saturday in a Mott Haven lot. Police say one of the men, 24-year-old Samuel Abreu, has been charged with second-degree murder. The other man, 18-year-old Sharef Wiley, is charged with disposing of a human body.
Police say Hughes, 32, was discovered face down in the weed-filled lot on 134th Street and Brook Avenue, wearing only a T-shirt and underwear. Investigators say their probe into the slaying was geared toward someone Hughes may have known, because no signs of struggle were apparent on her body.
