Pregnant Bronx woman hit by train, survives
Firefighters and police saved a pregnant woman who fell onto the tracks at the East Tremont station and was hit by a train Friday morning.
Officials say the 22-year-old mother-to-be walked close to the edge of the platform, slipped and fell as a train was pulling into the station.
?We were able to extricate her from under the train and take her to the hospital,? says Battalion Chief Brian Fink.
Fink says that the woman was treated at St. Barnabas Hospital for minor injuries and bruises that do not appear to be life-threatening.
According to one police officer, people often survive falls at subway stations because there is sufficient room between the tracks where they can burrow down and avoid getting run over by a train.
Following the incident, train service was disrupted for about 40 minutes, but has since returned to normal.
