Price survey: Holiday dinner for 10 people can cost $50
Many Bronx residents are concerned that high food prices may impact their Thanksgiving dinners this year. But according to the American Farm Bureau, a family of 10 can eat a traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner for under $50.
Using a price survey provided by the Bureau, News 12 The Bronx shopped around a local market for the ingredients for the perfect holiday meal, including a 17 lb. turkey, rolls, sweet potatoes, stuffing, frozen vegetables, cranberries and pumpkin pie ingredients. The grand total was $40.31.
According to the Bureau, it is crucial to be flexible with your ingredients and brands. It is also necessary to compare prices within the store. It may be cheaper to serve frozen or canned vegetables and cranberries than fresh.
Experts also recommend checking ingredients already at home to prevent spending money on new items.
