Lawmakers hold special session in Albany
Lawmakers are holding a special session in Albany Tuesday to focus on the budget cuts proposed by Gov. David Paterson (D-N.Y.). The cuts target areas such as education and health care. The governor says the budget cuts are necessary since the state has a nearly $2 billion deficit.Paterson has criticized Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) for refusing to negotiate before the special session. Skelos argues midyear cuts to school aid are unfair and that any cuts should be in a state budget proposal.More than 1,000 people are expected to attend a rally to voice their opposition to the proposed cuts.
