M.S. 399 in Fordham to be closed down
The city's Department of Education announced plans Tuesday to close a Fordham middle school by 2011.
Education officials say the school, M.S. 399 on 184th Street, is being shuttered because of its poor academic performance. The school received a "D" on its most recent progress report and was also placed on the state's list of persistently dangerous schools.
But despite the school's poor performance, one parent says the answer is not to close it down.
"This is not a solution," says Yolanda Hernandez. "They should improve the teachers. [The school] shouldn't close."
The announcement about M.S. 399 follows a similar plan that will be implemented at P.S. 90 on Sheridan Avenue.
