Brancato found not guilty of murder in cop's death
Former "Sopranos" actor Lillo Brancato Jr. was acquitted of murder Monday in the 2005 shooting death of an off-duty New York City police officer.
Brancato was accused in the fatal shooting of Officer Daniel Enchautegui. Prosecutors had said Brancato stood by as his co-defendant, Steven Armento, shot and killed the officer during a Pelham Bay apartment break-in.
Brancato was found not guilty of felony murder, two counts of burglary and one count of attempted burglary. He was found guilty of a separate attempted burglary charge and faces a minimum of three years in prison on that count. However, the actor could get credit for time served because he has been behind bars for about that long.
Jurors last deliberated Friday, a day after announcing they were deadlocked 11-1 in the trial.
Armento has already been convicted in the murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Brancato will be sentenced on the attempted burglary charge in January.AP wire services were used in this report.
