Photos of parking infractions may become mandatory
Bronx Councilman James Vacca (D) has introduced a bill to the city council that would make cameras a mandatory item for NYPD traffic agents.
Traffic agents may soon be required to take a snapshot of parking infractions to prove when a ticket is warranted. The city has handed out more than $620 million in tickets just last year.
"We want them to document that they have indeed issued a ticket that is worthy of being issued," Vacca said.
Some believe that the cameras will wind up costing the city more than they can spend.
"They would have to write more tickets in order to justify the cost of the cameras,? said Thomas Denaro. ?It's just going to add insult to injury."
The bill now heads to a committee and will be voted on soon.
