Alleged killer of pregnant daughter pleads not guilty

The man who allegedly killed his pregnant daughter and threw her body in a furnace entered a not guilty plea Thursday to charges of rape, incest and endangering the welfare of a child.

DNA tests proved Miguel Matias, 35, fathered his 14-year-old daughter Ana's child. Matias is accused of strangling her and disposing of her body.

"I used to meet him with the kids in the restaurant. We ate together. So everything for me used to look normal. I never saw her scared, or she didn't want to go to her father," Miguel Matias' ex-wife, Jocelyn Balbi, said.

Balbi is now working with local advocates to prevent similar horrors from happening in the future.

News 12 The Bronx is still awaiting comment from Matias' attorney.
