Police resolve hostage situation on 178th St.
A Bronx man was taken into police custody Friday morning after allegedly taking his family hostage inside a building on 178th Street.
Neighbors say the standoff started at around 9:00 p.m. Thursday when a woman called 911 to report a domestic dispute involving her boyfriend, who was armed. Investigators say when police arrived at the scene, the man locked the woman and her children out of their apartment and refused to open the door.
A SWAT team that was called to the scene evacuated two apartment buildings, forcing tenants to sleep on MTA buses until the man surrendered.
"It makes no sense what he did," says neighbor Alvin Mulligant. "My family had to stand out here in the rain ... I'm glad it's over."
The NYPD hasn't yet released the name of the suspect or the motive behind the alleged incident.
