P.S. 71 mother says son saw bathroom bullying
The mother of a student at P.S. 71 came forward with information that her son witnessed an alleged bullying incident against another student in a school bathroom.
Last week, another parent at the school claimed her 6-year-old son was approached inside a restroom by a 13-year-old boy and told to take off his shoes and pants. The child allegedly refused to comply and became visibly upset, prompting the older boy to let him go.
Police say the 13-year-old boy was later arrested for unlawful imprisonment. The younger child was not harmed.
A mother at the school, who did not wish to be identified, says her son witnessed the incident involving the two boys. She says when she approached the principal of the school with her concerns, she was brushed off.
Some parents, however, say the principal is doing the right thing by not jumping to premature conclusions.
"He's very careful about jumping the gun on things, panicking people," says parent Siobhan Lynch.
Officials from the Department of Education say they are taking the matter seriously, and it is still under investigation.
