Bloomberg to propose smoking ban in city parks

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he wants to ban smoking in areas like parks and beaches.

The city health commissioner says Bloomberg?s proposal is part of his anti-tobacco crusade. In 2002, Bloomberg faced political battle when he banned smoking in restaurants and bars.

The proposal will only go into effect if Bloomberg is elected for another term. Then, smoking would be banned starting in 2012.
