John Liu, Bill de Blasio victorious in runoffs

(AP) - New York City Councilman Bill de Blasio has wonthe Democratic primary runoff for public advocate. De Blasio had 63 percent of the vote to Mark Green's 37 percent,with 85 percent of precincts reporting.

John Liu, Bill de Blasio victorious in runoffs
(AP) - New York City Councilman Bill de Blasio has wonthe Democratic primary runoff for public advocate.
De Blasio had 63 percent of the vote to Mark Green's 37 percent,with 85 percent of precincts reporting.
Green was the first person to hold the job of public advocatewhen it was created in 1993.
De Blasio faces Republican Alex Zablocki Nov. 3.
The public advocate acts as the ombudsman for City Hall. Thepublic advocate also takes over if something happens to the mayor.
Meanwhile, John Liu won the New York City runoffdeciding the Democratic nomination for comptroller.
If he wins the Nov. 3 general election, he would be the firstAsian-American elected to citywide office in New York City.
The comptroller is the chief financial officer of the city,analyzing the budget and auditing city agencies.
The runoff was held Tuesday after neither Liu nor Yassky got 40percent in the four-way primary two weeks ago.
Liu is heavily favored against Republican Joe Mendola on Nov. 3.
