Fire ravages Williamsbridge home; 13 hurt

Six firefighters and seven tenants were injured when a fire tore through a house in Williamsbridge early Wednesday morning.

Fire officials say the blaze broke out in a basement apartment at 720 East 219th St. The longtime residents of that apartment say they had frequently complained about the living conditions, calling them "unsafe."

The fire has left many families homeless. The Red Cross will be helping those residents who have nowhere to go with temporary accommodations.
