Accused stray-bullet shooter pleads not guilty
The man accused of shooting an elderly Bronx woman pled not guilty in court to charges of second-degree murder Friday.
Prosecutors say Jamal Blair, 18, opened fire while trying to break up a fight on East 224th Street. A stray bullet struck Sadie Mitchell, 92, through a window while she was watching TV.
Blair's attorney, Angelo MacDonald, says Jamal is a good kid and isn't adjusting to life in jail very well.
MacDonald argues that his client is being overcharged because the second-degree murder charge does not fit the crime. However, prosecutors say Blair admitted to the shooting in a written and videotaped statement.
Blair is due back in court on January 8.
