Mayor launches NYC food service program

? Mayor Bloomberg announced Monday a new alliance between New York City service and food banks to make it easier for everyone to serve the community.

With the tough economy in play, food banks and soup kitchens are expecting a heavy turnout this holiday season.

The plan is called Adopt a Food Program and will pair up volunteers with food banks and soup kitchens that are in need of services.

The program is asking for volunteers to sign a contract for three to 12 months. This would assure help in food banks well past the holiday rush.
