Police: Woman killed in hit-and-run in Bronx

Police arrested a Bronx driver who is suspected of hitting a pedestrian on Baychester Avenue and leaving her to die in the street Friday.

According to authorities, 28-year-old Sheldon Reid mowed down 40-year-old Sonya Powell as she was crossing the street at around 8 p.m. Police say Reid didn't have a valid license plate at the time of the accident.

Powell was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Reid is now facing charges of aggravated unlicensed driving and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
