Pelham Bay diner damaged in crash reopens

Less than a week after a minivan slammed into Sophie's Diner in Pelham Bay, the eatery reopened with the help of the community.

Patrons say they were afraid the diner would close after being damaged in the Dec. 11 incident, so they decided to help out.

"If they didn't pitch in, the business would suffer," says diner employee Genene Paul.

Mary Raffa, owner of Sophie's Diner, says she is frustrated with the way police have been handing the investigation into the incident.

However, a NYPD spokesperson says since no one was injured in the crash, a Breathalyzer test wasn't given to the driver and no violation was issued.
