E. Clark Place tenants rescued from fire

Firefighters pulled several residents to safety from the roof of a building on East Clark Place after it was ravaged by a fast-moving fire Wednesday morning.

Authorities say the fire broke out in the basement of a building at 20 East Clarke Place at around 7:20 a.m. and rapidly spread to other floors, forcing tenants to run for their lives.

Twelve residents suffered minor injures and several families were displaced by the fire just days before Christmas. Some 65 firefighters responded to the call.

Fire officials say the exact cause of the blaze is under investigation.
